WHO ARE WE?

Problem gambling affects many areas of a gambler’s world including physical and mental health, familial and social relationships, employment and finances. The impact of problem gambling on individuals, families and society has motivated many counsellors to educate themselves in supporting individuals seeking assistance.

In June of 1998, a group of Canadian professionals working in the field of problem gambling met to explore and develop quality standards and criteria in order to certify problem gambling counsellors in Canada.

A non-profit agency, the Canadian Problem Gambling Certification Board is dedicated to ensuring that individuals seeking assistance for gambling problems have access to professionals who have achieved measured standards in knowledge, skill and competence in problem gambling counselling and who adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice. The Board has created a process that will allow such counsellors to be recognized as certified Canadian Problem Gambling Counsellors.
